Bio
Janet Curry, M.A. founded Stillpoint in 2006, as a private practice offering counseling and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programs in Durango, CO and the Four Corners region.
Janet received her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Seattle University and her B.A. from Williams College. She has completed the extensive series of professional trainings for Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) providers with Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD and senior teachers at the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society.
Before moving to Durango in 2006, Janet worked as a mental health counselor/intern to adult outpatients at a Seattle community mental health clinic. She also taught MBSR at the clinic to professional colleagues and to clients with a variety of mental and physical health challenges and conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, AIDS, addiction recovery, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, and multiple sclerosis.
Janet’s work is grounded in three decades of personal study and practice of yoga and meditation. Her daily teachers include her two children, ages 9 and 13, and her husband of 15 years.
